Bol - Island Brac

Bol is the oldest coastal town on the island of Brac, characterized by its postcard beach 'Zlatni Rat' ( the golden horn). It is a small, charming town that stretches along the sea in a remarkable natural environment at the foot of the mountain. A paradise for active holidays on an island rich in authentic traditions.

Access to Bol

 - The boat crossing to the island of Brac are provided several times a day by 2 ferry lines:
  Split - Supetar on the north coast of the island in 50 minutes.
  Makarska - Sumartin east of the island in 1 hour.
  and once a day for pedestrians by catamaran Split - Bol directly in 65 minutes.


-The island of Brac has an airport near Bol, with connections to Zagreb and some European cities in summer.
 A company
also provides seaplane journey from Split.

General summary

 Located on the southern coast of the island Brac, Bol is a picturesque small town that stretches along the sea at the foot of Mount Vidova Gora, the highest peak of islands of the Adriatic culminating to 778m.
It has one of the most emblematic beaches of Croatia: Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn), this unique beach often photographed like a tongue that juts int othe sea, the shape changing with the currents.
It is surrounded by unspoilt nature, vegetation smelling wild herbs, beautiful beaches and small coves, crystal clear sea.

ormer village of fishermen, winegrowers and sailors, Bol has a lot of charm with its stone houses, its narrow streets, its typical port which occupies a central position and its long promenade by the sea interspersed with small beaches.
There are historical buildings as the Dominican monastery with its abundant archaeological collection, a renaissance baroque palace that houses an art gallery, churches and other sacred monuments.
Small living city inhabited all year, with its market, ts restaurants and taverns, fishing boats, Bol has various tourist attractions, sights abound.

What to do and see in Bol

Favoured by its position, Bol offers a large range of sporting and cultural activities.

1 / Sports activities:

- Bol has become a leading destination for lovers of water sports, offering excellent conditions forsailing,windsurfing andkitsurfingthrough the quality of its wind. It is also a major center for diving and fishing.

-Tennis has also made the Bol reputation with the Open tournament which in the past has attracted some big names on the magnificent facilities of the club -one of the finest and largest in Croatia- in the middle of a pine forest by the sea.

- Marked walking and cycling routes take you to the discovery of untouched nature, beauty rivaling landscapes.
Try it: the hiking trail amidst fragrant pine trees and grass that leads to the summit of the peak Vidova Gora, where the panoramic view is breathtaking.
The more adventurous can even jump paragliding for a moment of freedom.

2 /The sites to visit:

- Murvica, 6 km, ethno ecological village for a dip in the past everyday life.
An attractive place in Murvica: the cave of the dragon. It is a unique monument of the 16th century, witness of life of the Glagolitic monks, hermits priests who have taken refuge there; the interior walls of the cave are decorated with sculptures of a dragon, the moon and Madonna.
Murvica access a 20-minutes walk on a sloping path,  2 hours walk from Bol.

-The hermitage of Blaca: it was built in the 16th century by the monks of the Glagolitic order on a small plateau below a steep cliff. Place of refuge for priests who lived there in autarky, isolated in buildings connected to each other. There is inside the monestary a Baroque church, an observatory with a large telescope,a museum with a rich collection of weapons and watches, a library with valuable books, a small printing-room and even a school which was active till 1963.
Access requires 45 minutes of walking on gravel path.

-The top of Vidova Gora: a grandiose panoramic view including the island of Hvar as well as the Golden cape of the famous beach Zlatni Rat; black pine forest, scent of medical herbs, rocks. A site appreciated by photography enthusiasts. At the top, a typical restaurant is open in summer.
Access hiking or by road.

- Lokve and Duboki dolac: not far from Vidova Gora, are 3 pools dating from the Roman period, which were a public possession set on the edge of pastures. There is the lime crewice Duboki dolac westwards.
