Island Lastovo

Lastovo, small island in south Dalmatia, isolated in the middle of the Adriatic sea is an island in steep relief covered by wild vegetation and away from the mass tourism. The archipelago of Lastovo was declared a Natural Park in 2006.

Access to the island Lastovo

-Access is all year from Split by ferry in around 5 hours and by catamaran (pedestrian only) in 3 hours.
-The island is connected to Vela Luka on the island Korcula, in 1h30 by ferry.
-In July / August Lastovo can also be reached on certain days from Dubrovnik, only by pedestrian boat in 4 hours.

General summary

The small island of Lastovo to the wild beauty was until 1989 a military base closed to visitors, it stayed away from the tourist flow. Its summit, at 417m is an observation post of choice over the sea and the island of Korcula.
Lastovo is said to be marked by the number 46: 46i islets and rocks, 46 churches and chapels, 46 vineyards and 46 hills. We have not counted but anyway, this is an island of untouched nature, with steep landscapes, mountains and valleys mainly covered by vineyards and olive trees, and a rugged coastline forming numerous coves. The flora and fauna are rich, the sea is full of fish and migratory birds have chosen it as a stop over on their way between Europe and Africa.

- The main village Lastovo is turned inward and built like a natural amphitheater; it is characterized by the picturesque chimneys of stone houses, all different.
There are few places on the perimeter of the island: sheltered bays with few houses in Skrivena Lukaand its lighthouse, Lucica, Zaklopatica as well as the port Ubli and the village Pasadur face the many islands of the natural park.
- The island is easily explored by boat, bike or scooter. Lastovo is a paradise for walkers and cyclists; its seabed are among the top 10 divingspotsin Europe, sailing enthusiasts and fishermen will love it.
- Asfestivities: concerts, folklore, traditional dance...are held throughout the summer. And every year in winter for 6 centuries: a famous carnival  during  3 days, a pageant in costume which is respecting a strict ritual.
