The best known of the jewels of Croatia, more than a million visitors a year, this natural site listed as World Heritage by UNESCO in 1979.
General summary
Over an area of 296 km2, 16 lakes are connected by cascades bearings larger or smaller, of a total elevation that reaches 134m. They are divided into two groups: the upper lakes and the lower lakes.
All these magical waters takes place in a lush forest with abundant plant and animal species. Trails and small log bridges crisscross the park, in a wild landscape of fascinating beauty, the unreal and changing colors with the seasons. An electric train travels through the scenic park and an electric boat is crossing the largest lake.
Access to National Park Plitvice
The Plitvice Lakes are roughly halfway between Zagreb 150 km) and Zadar (130km)
The tour can be done individually or in organized trips from the coast of Kvarner, north Dalmatia or Zagreb.
Useful information
The park is open all year:
- Winter: 9h to 16h
- Spring and autumn: 8h to 18h
- Summer: 7am to 20h
Autumn and winter are also beautiful times to visit the park.

the number of visitors being high especially in summer, the park has set up a limitation of the number of entries per hour.
Tickets can be purchased online at the park site, with the date and time of arrival.It is highly recommended that you buy your tickets online in advance, otherwise you risk being turned back at the entrance if the maximum number of visitors is reached.
- Features:
The park has two entrances: the north N° 1 and N° 2 to the south. Each input has its parking fee (1 € per hour).
- Luggage storage is available at the entrance 1, cost around € 2.
- Several marked trails are available to visit the park, with a duration of 2-3 hours in a period of 6-8 hours.
- Swimming is prohibited.
- Dogs are welcome if they are leashed.
- Restaurant, bar and fast food on site.
