2025: 1100 years of the Croatian Kingdom
Medieval Greater Croatia, an independent Croatian kingdom, was founded in 925 with the coronation of King Tomislav, the first King of Croatia. Tomislav I received the title of king from the hands of the Archbishop, with the approval of Pope John X at the Council of Split.This coronation marked the official recognition of the Croatian Kingdom by the papacy, confirming its entry into the circle of European Christian kingdoms.
A prosperous period of territorial, economic and cultural expansion would last for 2 centuries.
To commemorate this anniversary, several events are organized in several cities, especially Zagreb and Split, to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Croatian people, including the language, art and architecture that have characterized the past millennium: exhibitions on the Council of Split, a symposium in May in Split, musical and theatrical works dedicated to Tomislav, an Olympiad of religious education...
