New for Croatia from 01/01/2023: changeover to the euro, integration into the Schengen area.
10 years ago, Croatia joined the European Union, today it enters the euro zone as well as the Schengen area, thus strengthening its integration into the European body.
EURO: Purchases can still be paid in kuna until January 15, 2023 and beyond only in euros.
Kunas can be changed until December 31, 2023 in all banks, post offices and financial agencies at the official fixed rate: 1 kuna.
After this time, you will need to change your kuna at the Croatian National Bank.
SCHENGEN: free movement between member countries abolishes borders, controls will therefore be abolished between Croatia and Slovenia in particular. Air flights between cities in the Schengen area are considered domestic flights.
