Remarkable archaeological discovery on the Biokovo massif

Remarkable discovery of a prehistoric burial mound located at one of the highest altitudes for this type of structure, like others, of large size, some measuring up to 20m wide and 15m high. They were used for multiple burials. The bodies were in the fetal position, suggesting ancient beliefs in eternal sleep.

In Podglogovik, an abandoned village near a mountain hut, researchers discovered more than 60 tumuli dating from the 3rd century BC with stone tombs, evidence of the new burial practices introduced by Indo-European colonies at that time.
The excavations uncovered, among the bones, in particular the almost intact skeleton of a 25-year-old man (advanced age for the time) showing signs of malnutrition and spinal problems.
Also the grave of a 16-18 year-old boy who had suffered trauma.
The deepest grave contained a man holding a decorated container, suggesting his belonging to the Cetina cultural group.

These discoveries have attracted international interest and add a new dimension to the appeal of Biokovo Nature Park, already known for its rich archaeological heritage and appreciated for its magnificent landscapes.
